How To Maintain Your Motorcycle Jacket and Pants Like a Pro



 Maintain a good cleanliness of your motorcycle garments will not only let you looks great, but also improve their longevity and performance, and it will eventually summed up  to a more comfortable ride and long term cost-saving.
For Goretex Garment, DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a external coating on the garment that able to beads water like car cystal coating.  Regular cleaning and reactivation of DWR will also prevent the garment become heavy when soaked with rainwater and breathability being paralyzed, making your Goretex Garment like cheap rain suit.  Bear in mind , manufacturer will also require the user to maintain the gear for honoring the lifetime waterproof warranty claim if any.  



Textile Garments Cleaning





1.       Read manufacturer label inside the jacket/pants  for special instructions.

2.       Remove all amours (shoulder, elbow, back, chest, knee, hip, knee sliders, etc).

3.       Close all zips, flaps and pockets.


Machine Wash

4.       Fill-in a capful of liquid detergent, avoid powder detergent, softener and bleach.

5.       To spot clean stubborn stain like oil grime, mud or soil, apply some liquid detergent on the affected area and rubbing using fingers, use soft brush if necessary.

6.       Select Low Spin, Gentle Cycle, Delicate Wash or any similar option; Warm Water; and Rinse Twice option.

7.       Hang Dry.


Hand Wash

4.    Fill a big basin with warm water, fill-in a capful of liquid detergent, avoid power detergent,
       softener and bleach.

5.    To spot clean stubborn stain like oil grime, mud or soil, apply some liquid detergent on the
       affected area and rubbing using fingers, use soft brush if necessary.
6.    Put the apparel in the basin, keep rubbing and rinsing a few times until the dirt is removed.
       Don’t wring or knead.

7.    Drain out the dirty water, and fill in clean water, rinse and repeat the process until no visible
       bubbles.


Goretex Garments - Reactivation of DWR (Durable Water Repellent )


1.   Apply DWR (If necessary)

2.    Put the garment 20 minutes in Dryer    OR

3.  Putting a towel in between the garment and the iron, choose warm and no steam option on iron for ironing the garment.


Leather Garment Cleaning and Maintenance

 
1.  Read manufacturer label inside the jacket/pants  for special instructions.

2.   Remove all amours (shoulder, elbow, back, chest, knee, hip, knee sliders, etc).

3.   Cleaning the garment exterior with Baby Wipes or Leather Cleaner, for stubborn stain, special  
       Leather Cleaner might be needed.

4.   Mix some baking soda with water in a spray bottle.

5.   Spray the liquid moderately to the jacket inner (if it is not removable), do not overdo it to prevent the excess liquid go to the leather; If the inner can be removed, you can machine wash it like textile garments or hand wash.

6.   Leave it for 15 minutes and wipe with a clean dry clothes.

7.   Moisture the garment exterior with leather conditioner or lemon essential oil.


Zipper Lubrication


1.   Lubricate all the zippers with Silicone Oil.
